ANCIENT OLIVE PRESS, Ano Korakiana
Ref: 21040Ano Korakiana
Description
Tucked away in the little alleyways in this very pretty village, this old building was once a hive of activity, pressing the harvest of olives to produce oil. Unused for many years, it has been re-designed to become an interesting and comfortable house.
The main building consists of one big room, with the old olive press machinery at one end. In the centre of the room is a beautiful brick archway, and the high ceilings have exposed timbers.
Beneath the floor is a beautiful vaulted room, surprisingly spacious, with a lovely brick arched ceiling. This was originally a water tank, but would make a fabulous wine cellar.
The idea of the current owner is to have a large kitchen behind the machinery, with the rest of the room given over to a dining/living room. However, there is plenty of space on this level for a bedroom at the opposite end to the kitchen.
Above the proposed kitchen plumbing has been installed so that a mezzanine bedroom with an en-suite bathroom can be constructed.
A mezzanine has already been built at the opposite end of the building, so there would be a choice to a new owner of either 2 or 3 bedrooms.
The main entrance to the olive press is from a building on the side, intended to be a spacious hallway, a shower room and utility/boot room.
Outside there is a small courtyard leading into the house, with a little area at the front for planting.
Such an interesting building, this needs some imagination to see it as the wonderful finished home it could well be!
